The campaign in solidarity with the workers’ movement in Egypt is launched in Australia

Recently there has been a remarkable movement by the leaders and the activists of the working class in Egypt to organize a general strike across the country demanding the basic rights of the working class. There is a currently a marked wave of protests and strikes by workers in numerous economic sectors in Egypt. Against this struggle by workers, the Military Council and the government have resorted to oppression. In a joint statement they have answered the workers’ struggle and their attempts to organize a general strike with threats of a serious crack down on any such activity or involvement and with the reactivation of themartial law.
An international solidarity campaign has been launched in support of the working class in Egypt in its current class struggle. The main goals of this campaign are to gain the widest possible support across the world to support the workers’ movement in Egypt and their demands and to exert pressure on the Egyptian Military Council and the government to meet the demands of the workers. It aims at mobilising a swift and vigorous international response to any oppressive attack the Military Council and the government may launch against the workers, as there are evidence of a possible widespread and bloody crackdown in the country.
We, a group of political activists, believe that the victory of working class in Egypt is crucial not only for the working class and society in general but for the entire Middle East region and the world. Therefore we have decided to join this international solidarity campaign to win the support of labour organizations and activists, political parties, freedom loving people, human right organizations and activist in Australia for the workers’ movement in Egypt. We call on others to join this campaign.
